What the reserved ticket gives you
Buy the castle's own ticket and you get entry to the museums for €10, with no refund if your plans change. This one wraps the same access in two things the desk does not offer: a reserved ticket you collect on the square, and a commentary on your phone in six languages. The ticket opens every museum in the castle. That means Michelangelo's Pietà Rondanini in the Ospedale Spagnolo, the ducal rooms of the Museo d'Arte Antica with the Ducal Chapel of 1473, the Pinacoteca with its Mantegna, and the Rocchetta's musical instruments and Trivulzio tapestries. The Egyptian gallery, with its mummies, is on it too.
The audio runs through an app, not the castle's own rented handsets, so download it before you arrive and bring headphones. Several travellers found it thin in places, and it works best as a companion to the labels rather than a full tour. If you want the story told properly, a guided visit does that; this is for people who would rather set their own pace.
It is the lowest-priced of the Sforza Castle guided tours that take you inside, and for a first visit it is the simplest: swap the voucher, walk in, and see what you want.

- Swap the voucher. At the Autostradale office, Piazza Castello 1, where staff hand over your entry ticket.
- Walk the courtyards. In under the Filarete Tower; the courtyards themselves are free.
- The Pietà Rondanini. In its own hall on the Cortile delle Armi, on the same ticket.
- The museums, at your pace. Ducal rooms, Pinacoteca, instruments, tapestries, Egyptian gallery.
- Last entry at 4.30pm. Plan your final museum before then.

Where you collect it
At the Autostradale ticket office, Piazza Castello 1, on the square in front of the castle. This is a counter, not a guide: staff there exchange your voucher for the entry ticket and point you to the gate. The travellers who used it describe it as easy to find.
From there it is a short walk to the Filarete Tower and the courtyards. The map page shows the office, the gate and both museum desks.
Know before you go
- Tuesday to Sunday only. The museums close on Mondays, 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.
- Last entry 4.30pm. The ticket office inside closes then too.
- Bring a charged phone and headphones. Neither is in the fare.
- Download before you go. The castle's own rented audio guide is a different product.
- The Sala delle Asse is closed for restoration; plan the rest of your route without it.
- Children under 18 enter the castle free, so check whether you need to book them at all.

What are Sforza Castle ticket prices at the castle itself?
€10 full price and €5 reduced, and one ticket opens every museum in the castle, the Pietà Rondanini and the Egyptian gallery included. It is valid on the day it is issued, with one entry to each museum section. The battlement walk, the Merlate Panoramiche, is a separate €10 ticket.
Is the castle free to visit?
The courtyards are, every day from 7am to 7.30pm, so you can walk in under the Filarete Tower without a ticket. The museums are free for everyone on the first Sunday of each month and free for anyone up to 25 on the second Tuesday. Under-18s never pay.
Is there an audio guide at Sforza Castle?
The castle rents one at the Bookshop by the museum entrance for €5, in Italian, English, French, Spanish, German and Russian. It does not cover the Egyptian gallery. The reserved ticket sold with an app-based guide uses your own phone instead.
Is the Egyptian gallery included in the ticket?
Yes. The Galleria Antico Egitto is on the standard €10 ticket, in a renewed display with mummies, sarcophagi and a statue of the pharaoh Amenemhat III. Groups have to book an entry time; individual visitors walk straight in.
Is anything at the castle closed right now?
The Sala delle Asse is closed for restoration, and so is the prehistory section of the archaeology museum. Foppa's Madonna del Libro is off display for maintenance, with another fifteenth-century Madonna hung in its place. The castle posts changes on its notices page, which is worth a look the week you go.
